Chocolate Chip Cream Cheese Scones

There's a bakery in Raleigh that sells the most amazing scones. They have a perfect texture, with lots of chocolate chips and a bit of cream cheese in them. Now, I've recently been craving these scones like crazy, and since I haven't been able to drive out to get them, I decided to try to make some for myself. The recipe I used originally came from cookiesandcups.com and is absolutely delicious. These scones are super moist and flavorful, and so easy to make! This recipe yields six scones.
First, mix together your softened butter and cream cheese in a bowl. If you have one, a pastry cutter would be best for this, if not, a spoon will do. Then, cut in all of the dry ingredients until you have a soft, crumbly mixture.

Next, stir in the chocolate chips. In a separate bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients. Pour these into the bowl with the crumb mixture, and stir with a spoon until the dough is loosely mixed. Then, dump the dough onto a lightly floured counter-top, and knead just until the wet and dry ingredients are fully incorporated, and the mixture has a uniform consistency (I added an extra teaspoon or so of milk to help to dough come together). Gently pat down the dough down into a disk about 1 inch high.

Now, brush the top of the dough with a bit of whole milk. Place a few chocolate chips on top of the dough to decorate. Then, slice the disk into six equal triangles, as if you were cutting a small pizza.

Place the scones onto a lightly greased tray and bake at 400 degrees (F) for about eighteen minutes, or until they just start to brown. Remove from the oven and enjoy!

(For all of you hyper-observant people out there, yes, there are only five scones in this picture. One may or may not have already been eaten)
The Ingredients:
1/4 cup butter
4 oz cream cheese
1/4 cup sugar
1 + 1/2 cups AP flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 of an egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons whole milk
The Method:
1. Mix together cream cheese and butter.
2. Cut in all of the dry ingredients, then add the chocolate chips.
3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the the wet ingredients.
4. Stir the two mixtures together, then knead until fully combined.
5. Flatten the dough into a inch-high disk, and brush the top with a little milk.
6. Top with a few chocolate chips for decoration, then cut into six triangles.
7. Bake at 400 degrees for 18 minutes, and enjoy!
